THERAPY DESCRIPTION

ACUPUNCTURE THERAPY

What is Acupuncture?
It is a method of therapy, involving fine needles inserted at specific acupuncture points, to relieve pain, improve the function of the affected areas of the body, and promote healing. It stimulates by, as it were, prodding the body to rebalance itself and heal itself. Acupuncture therapy is one part of a rich and complex Chinese medical system that is used to diagnose, treat and prevent diseases, reduce suffering and maintain health and well-being.

Does Acupuncture Work? Of course!
For thousands of years, it has benefited more people than any other medical therapy. Not only has it stood the test of time, it has also been shown in numerous scientific experiments-and modern research in this field is on –going- to be effective for many ailments. Empirically, or through experience, some 80 to 90% of patients can be helped by it.

How Does Acupuncture work?
Acupuncture points on the body are located along nerve pathways. The traditional Chinese explanation is that the circulation or flow or energy along the nerve pathways have to be even and balanced for optimal health. Disruption or obstruction of that circulation leads to ailments.

The nervous system especially from the spine is related to internal organ systems, and by, stimulating particular back acupuncture points can improve the function of corresponding internal. The Western medical term for such maintenance of the body’s internal environment is homeostasis.

Modern research has shown that acupuncture stimulates the nervous system to release natural chemicals (of which endorphins are one kind), which can modify the perception of pain, or cause other hormones or chemicals to be secreted into the circulation, affecting the body’s regulating function. Just as the body’s nervous system, biochemistry and physiology are complex, the effects of acupuncture can be profound. There is much, much more to acupuncture than pain relief through endorphins.

What Can Acupuncture Treat?
The disorders that are amenable to acupuncture therapy are too numerous to list. The World Health Organization recognizes acupuncture treatment for a wide range of medical conditions, including many disorders of the: respiratory, digestive, neurological, musculo-skeletal and genitor-urinary systems. It is useful for physical disorders associated with mental or emotional conditions, stress, and so on. It can help in not only acute or chronic pain, but also other non-painful disorders such as skin diseases, allergies, immune disorders, etc. A relatively new use has been for treatment of addictions.

It might be easier to list conditions for which acupuncture should not be used, at least as a first-line therapy: cancer, acute surgical conditions, emergent life-threatening diseases, etc.

Acupuncture could be used as an adjunct to allopathic medical level, such as for post-operative pain, nausea associated with chemotherapy and adverse effects of other therapists or medicines.

Acupuncture, in the West, has been considered an alternative, or better, a complementary modality. Often it could be used as a first-line treatment, rather than as a last resort. Even so, it has helped a lot of patients when other treatments have failed. Just as Western medicine is not a cure-all, neither is acupuncture a panacea. However, in the hands of a qualified practitioner, trained in clinical medicine and with the correct diagnosis, acupuncture can be a safe and powerful tool.

What is Medical Acupuncture?
Medical acupuncture evolved from the spread of texts and the practice of acupuncture from China to Europe in the 17th and 18th centuries. These, acupuncture have developed alongside modern Western medicine. Medical acupuncture is the term applied to acupuncture practiced by doctors and practitioners, who are trained and licensed in Western medicine, and who has also had through training in acupuncture as a specialty.  A doctor or practitioner with such training can use one approach or the other, or combine them, for optimal patient care.

What is Acupuncture Treatment like?
Each session begins with the usual assessment – history of illness and associated factors, a physical examination, and tests, if necessary. Diagnosis and treatment options will be discussed with you before commencement of any treatment.

Acupuncture treatments consists insertion of s extremely fine sterile, disposable, stainless-steel needles  at special acupuncture or trigger points on the body. The sensation may feel like a mosquito bite, followed by a slightly heavy sensation, which may radiate along a nerve pathway as the needle is inserted and reaches a nerve centre. After the initial sensation a relaxed feeling will ensue.

ELECTRO –ACUSCOPE

Electro-acupuncture is combined with needling acupuncture or as a stand alone modality as part of our pain management protocol. Electro-Acuscope ™ is an electronic instrument that produces a gentle-low electric current which is emitted in pulses. Electro-acupuncture creates a deeper stimulation at the points being treated.  Both acupuncture and electro acupuncture are used for but not limited to; Acute injuries, contusions, concussions, pre/post surgical, chronic pain, MVA’s, head/neck injuries, headaches, sleep disorders, stress, anxiety, intractable pain patterns, scar tissue, arthritis, fibromyalgia, MS lymphatic drainage and many other uses

Low Level Laser Technology

Low level laser therapy has proven to be very effective for many conditions that have not responded well to other forms of treatment. LLLT has been thoroughly tested and proven effective in most countries of the world. It is a well accepted and recommended form of treatment in England, Italy, Ireland, the Netherlands, and Russia, Israel, Japan, Canada, India, Venezuela and many other countries in Europe, South America and the Far East.

It stimulates the tissues and promotes healing by penetrating deep into the tissues initializing the process of photobiostimulation and there is no discomfort related to the procedure. The light energy from the low level laser is absorbed within cell and cell membranes .A small amount of Singlet Oxygen is produced as a result of the absorption. This is combined with a number of other factors to produce healing as demonstrated in many thousands of clinical study cases. Each case is different and the program utilized varies with the severity on the condition The laser light  aids the production of ATP           ( energy produce by cell) thereby providing the cell with more energy which in turn means the cell is in optimum condition to play it's part in a natural healing process. The effect is photochemical (like photosynthesis in plants.

Typically, patients can expect to feel noticeable improvement after four to five sessions for acute conditions (not uncommon after one visit with some individual) and after six to eight treatments for chronic conditions. In many instances, low level laser therapy can be a viable alternative to surgery.

Because of the low power nature of low level laser therapy the effects are biochemical and not thermal and cannot cause heating and thereby damage to living tissue.

 Laser technology is used as part of our treatment protocols for;

  • Injuries or lesions to improve wound
  • Soft tissue healing and give relief for both acute and chronic pain
  •  Increase speed of healing and strength of tissue repair
  •  Resolve inflammation and bruising
  •  Musculoskeletal disorders
  •  Chronic Pain and non healing wounds
  •  An alternative to needles for acupuncture
  • Immune system stimulation & blood irradiation and health maintenance.
  • For many other reasons too numerous to mention here

Stop Smoking with Laser Therapy

How does it Work?
Theralase Lasers use light energy to stimulate specific acupuncture points, or energy points, related to the lungs, brain and autonomic nervous system. When you stop smoking the chemical messengers that have been sent to your brain due to nicotine intake are removed and withdrawal symptoms result. Our laser treatments are effective at stimulating the appropriate acu points that help re-balance the brain chemistry thus avoiding unwanted symptoms of withdrawal and promoting feelings of relaxation.

Laser treatments Reduce Withdrawal Symptoms

Laser Therapy stimulates the release of the body’s natural calming and pain reducing substances - endorphins. These endorphins replace the nicotine-triggered endorphins to which smokers are addicted. The endorphins that are released as a result of this treatment are longer lasting, and greatly reduce symptoms, irritability and cravings that are normally associated with smoking cessation.  They also commonly assist in sleeping, stress reduction and give the client a general sense of well being.

Decreased Desire to Smoke

Laser therapy often causes a change in taste thresholds or the perceived taste of tobacco. The taste of smoke generally becomes less desirable and even objectionable, lowering the overall desire to continue smoking.

Stop smoking programs

Theralase™ stop smoking programs are comprised of three 30-60 minute sessions. These sessions include carbon monoxide testing, laser therapy, nutritional guidance to detoxify the body of nicotine, and advice to help clients cope with the habit of smoking.
Generally, one visit is all that is required to remove the addiction. However to ensure long term results, we recommend attending a second treatment 2 days later and a third treatment 2-4 weeks later.
Although results are not guaranteed, success rates are very high. More than half of patients completing the program will quit smoking and be on their way to improved health.

Are you a Candidate?

  • 100% desire to quit
  • Ready to stop input of all nicotine products, including gums and cigars

Nutritional Medicine

Orthomolecular Nutritional Medicine describes the practice of preventing and treating disease by providing the body with optimal amounts of nutritional substances which are natural to the body. The term "orthomolecular" was first used by Linus Pauling in a paper he wrote in the journal Science in 1968. This paper first described the theoretical foundations for what was later to become a specialty within integrative natural medicine. Many people use the term "nutritional therapy" synonymously with orthomolecular medicine, although the latter covers a much broader range of healthcare issues.

The key idea in orthomolecular nutritional medicine is that genetic factors are central not only to the physical characteristics of individuals, but also to their biochemical milieu. Biochemical pathways of the body have significant genetic variability in terms of transcriptional potential and individual enzyme concentrations, receptor-site binding, affinities and protein transporter efficiency. Diseases such as atherosclerosis, cancer, schizophrenia or depression are associated with specific biochemical abnormalities, which are either causal or aggravating factors of the illness. In the orthomolecular view, it is possible that the provision of vitamins, amino acids, trace elements or fatty acids in amounts sufficient to correct biochemical abnormalities will be therapeutic in preventing or treating such diseases.

For the better part of the 20th Century, we've been taking vitamin and mineral supplements to eliminate deficiencies. Orthomolecular nutritional medicine takes this idea one step further, holding that larger than usual doses of certain nutrients can actually prevent or cure disease. Although there's still considerable debate over specific dosages and their therapeutic effects, the basic principle is now firmly established and widely accepted. Two of America's greatest scourges--heart disease and high blood pressure--can sometimes both be held at bay by high-dose nutrients, and advocates insist that many other chronic conditions, including diabetes and schizophrenia, can be helped as well.

We provide a comprehensive nutritional assessment including computerized nutritional analysis, in office mineral screening and laboratory hair mineral screening. After collecting and interpretation of all data a nutritional wellness is tailored based on your individual biochemical needs.

Note: Taking non-prescribed food supplements and food factors is not the same as being treated by orthomolecular nutritional medicine. Only practitioners trained in orthomolecular nutritional medicine can do biochemical balancing. After the orthomolecular prescription, you are monitored and your progress reassessed through appropriate lab test such as blood, urine, saliva and other test as deemed necessary until the desired result is achieved.

Homeopathic Medicine

omeopathy is a safe effective wellness based system of medicine developed in 1796 by Dr. Samuel Hahnemann a German Medical Doctor and Biochemist, is recognized by the WHO (world Health Organization) and is used by billions of people world wide. 75% (seventy five) of the world’ population use natural medicine in it crude form or are clients of natural medicine doctors and practitioners. Homeopathic medicine is particularly effective in treating chronic illness that fails to respond to synthetic drug treatment or due to miasmas (inherited or acquired toxins). After reviewing the totality of your symptoms, a homeopathic program is prescribed to reestablish or stimulate immune function. Only a qualified homeopathic medical practitioner/doctor must prescribe homeopathic medicine especially in chronic. After receiving a homeopathic prescription you are required to return at frequent intervals to evaluate outcome or to ascertain if further treatment is required.

Homeopathic Medicine is offered as part of our integrative approach to treatment.

The first visit includes an assessment of your overall condition. You will be asked many questions about the symptoms of your illness and what affect them, your personal and family medical, your appetite, food likes and dislikes, and the regularity of your body functions. Some questions concerning your occupation, recreational activities and emotional state are aimed at determining which constitutional (your inherited or acquired physical, emotional makeup) type you closely match. After studying all collecting information a homeopathic treatment plan including dispensing homeopathic medicine and suggestions on lifestyle changes or modification will be prescribed. Your initial visit usually lasts from one and one half to two hours.

Follow up visit will be scheduled, particularly in constructional and chronic cases rather than for situations of acute visit .It are very necessary that your homeopath interprets your response to remedy prescribed as part of the homeopathic evaluation. This and subsequent visits are usually shorter and may last from a half hour to forty five minutes.

Homeopathic/Isopathic Immuno-therapy

Increasing public awareness of the dangers associated with many immunizations is creating great public apprehension in many individuals. Isopathic/homeopathic immunization is a safe effective immunization technique developed by German Physician and Scientist Dr Carl Spengler over 100 years ago. Procedure aims at stimulating the immune system in a non-invasive way. Isopathic medicine in homeopathic dilutions are applied at specific location on the skin, inhalation or sublingually. The remedies act as a curative agent where disease has developed or preventive agent in the absent of disease. This type of immunization is available from homeopathic or doctors who are trained in Dr Spengler’s techniques of immunization.

You should obtain immunization Isopathic/homeopathic immunization if you are recurrently experiencing cold and flues, recovering from illness, planning to have surgery, planning to travel to foreign destinations and once per year especially in the fall to maintain health.
